An unprecedented auction sale for the Louvre Museum!

From December 1 to 15, the Louvre Museum is organizing an auction with the support of Christie’s and Drouot houses. With these 24 lots - some of which are unconventional, the "Bid for the Louvre" operation aims to raise funds to finance solidarity and educational projects.

This is a first for the museum! By multiplying collaborations with some of its prestigious patrons, during this sale, buyers will be able to bid and win new experiences such as walking the roofs of the museum with the artist JR (estimate between 6K and 12k) or attending the annual examination of the Mona Lisa during which outside its window (between 10K and 30k). It will be possible to acquire La Rose du Louvre by Jean-Michel Othoniel or Painting by Pierre Soulages.

This operation aims to provide the necessary funds to finance the museum's new project: the "Studio". Intended for families, school groups and the most precarious, this new space of more than 1000m2 will be launched in September 2021. Because the vocation of a museum is to be open to all, this solidarity project aims to familiarize a "vulnerable" public with art through educational workshops and thus democratize its access.

Struck by a historic drop in attendance due to the health crisis, the museum does not intend to give up on its new project. The sale takes place online, virus obliges - but also to reach an international audience, usually majority visitors. In order to raise funds, the museum cannot count on the sale of its works unlike the Anglo-Saxon model, these being inalienable. By capitalizing on its brand image, the Louvre intends to diversify its revenues and thus ensure an essential future relay for their own resources.

For this exceptional sale, the museum was able to count on the contributions of several contemporary artists. We count Johan Creten, Candida Höfer, Éva Jospin, Jean-Michel Othoniel, Pierre Soulages and Xavier Veilhan among the generous donors. In collaboration with various patrons and partners such as Cartier, Christian Dior Couture, Christian Dior Parfums, Le Meurice, Moët Hennessy, Off-White, Ritz Paris, Vacheron Constantin and Louis Vuitton, the sale offers unique experiences as well as personalized services.
